‘All current and aspiring top strategic leaders should read this book – whatever their field, whatever their experience and expertise. It is a book whose time is ripe.’
Lord Patten of Barnes CH
‘This is an intriguing book and an intriguing concept. It is a practical book about leadership, as valuable in industry as it is in the military, and a very useful reservoir of knowledge and experience.’
Lord Robertson

In Business and Battle

In Business and Battle: Strategic Leadership in the Civilian and Military Spheres is a short book written in a straightforward style about the combined insights from a year’s course at the Royal College of Defence Studies. The book is cross-cultural, cross-sectoral and international. We believe it will appeal to a wide readership.

The book’s editors are Vice-Admiral Charles Style (previously Commandant of the RCDS), Nicholas Beale and David Ellery. Some of the College’s distinguished speakers have contributed to the book; chapters are written by groups of College members from a range of countries; and Sir John Parker and Lord Patten provide respectively the foreword and afterword.

Lord Robertson of Port Ellen chaired the launch event, held on Thursday 27 September, which linked audiences at the RCDS in London, the British Ambassador’s Residence in Beijing and The Heritage Foundation in Washington DC.

The editors are delighted to record that the royalties accruing from the publication of this book are to be used for the establishment and maintenance of a prize relating to strategic leadership, to be awarded at the RCDS.
